First of all it’s the story of a meeting. Four boys, with spirits kindled by the same passions, obsessed by the same dreams. Four boys that decide one day to treat themselves to artistic and discographic freedom. After spending some time building castles in the sky, they decide to jump in with both feet during a concert by the late Elliott Smith at the Coopérative de Mai, the emblematic venue of their native town Clermont-Ferrand. In 2006 Alexandre (The Delano Orchestra), Damien (Leopold Skin), Bertrand (Pastry Case) and François (St Augustine) put together their respective projects in a label baptised Kütu Folk. An old fashioned label where shape is as important as content; it is enough to see one of their beautiful records with the hand sewn cover to understand the aesthetic philosophy that drives them. Since then, naturally used to a Singer sewing machine as to a Telecaster, a camera as to a camcorder, these artisans of musical things, with large ideas and perfect ideals, have come a long way. Along their road they met Canadian cousins (Soso, Evening Hymns), an American friend (Hospital Ships), fellow citizens (Zak Laughed, Dempster Highway, Garciaphone), fellow countrymen (Kim Novak from Normandy). And they were all invited to share their appetence.
Feted by the specialized magazines (Magic, Noise News…), webzines (La Blogothèque, Hartzine…), cultural weeklies (Les Inrocks, Télérama…) and other dailies (Libération, Le Monde…) the band of four doesn’t give a fig about tendencies and delve a path easily recognisable through their rich and eclectic discography. Despite a reductive name, we embrace here an out of time elegant folk, a crepuscular post-rock, an exuberant pop, a wanton hip-hop with a lingering scent of seduction as a common denominator. Invited by the Trans Musicales to celebrate their five years of existence (still minors and yet already a major), Kütu Folk conceived a band especially for the event and will give many unique performances for this special birthday party, to which all the members of the label have been invited (with the exception of Leopold Skin who's gone missing). Each day, between acoustic murmurs and electric shrills, classic escapades and cinematographic invitations, they will all share with you a journey in an unusual world, personal and universal at the same time.
